Introduction
What is Freecell Solitaire?
Freecell Solitaire is a type of solitaire card game that was invented by Paul Alfille in 1978. It is played with a standard 52-card deck, and unlike some other solitaire games, it is possible to solve almost every deal. The name Freecell comes from the four empty cells at the top left corner of the screen, where you can temporarily store cards during the game.
Why is it popular?
Freecell Solitaire is popular because it is a game that combines skill, strategy, and luck. It is challenging but not frustrating, as you can always see all the cards and move them around freely. It is also satisfying to complete a game, as you have to arrange all the cards in ascending order by suit on the four foundation piles at the top right corner of the screen. Freecell Solitaire is also a game that can be played by anyone, anywhere, anytime, as it does not require any special equipment or internet connection.

How to Play Freecell Solitaire
The objective of the game
The objective of Freecell Solitaire is to move all the cards from the tableau (the eight columns at the bottom of the screen) to the foundation (the four piles at the top right corner of the screen) in ascending order by suit. For example, you have to move all the aces to the first foundation pile, then all the twos, then all the threes, and so on until you reach the kings.
The layout of the game
The layout of Freecell Solitaire consists of four parts:
The tableau: This is where you deal and play with the cards. There are eight columns of cards, each containing six or seven cards, depending on the column. The first four columns have seven cards each, and the last four columns have six cards each. The top card of each column is face-up, and the rest are face-down. You can move the cards from one column to another, following some rules that we will explain later.
The freecells: These are the four empty cells at the top left corner of the screen. You can use them to temporarily store one card each during the game. This gives you more flexibility and freedom to move the cards around.
The foundation: These are the four piles at the top right corner of the screen. This is where you have to move all the cards in ascending order by suit. Each pile corresponds to one suit: spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. You start with an empty pile and then place the ace of that suit, followed by the two, then the three, and so on until you reach the king.
The stock: This is the remaining cards that are not dealt to the tableau. In Freecell Solitaire, there is no stock, as all 52 cards are dealt at the beginning of the game.
The rules of the game
The rules of Freecell Solitaire are simple but require some strategy and planning. Here are the main rules that you need to know:
You can only move one card at a time, either from the tableau to another column, from the tableau to a freecell, from a freecell to another freecell, from a freecell to a foundation, or from the tableau to a foundation.
You can only move a card to another column if it is one rank lower and of a different color than the card at the bottom of that column. For example, you can move a black six to a red seven, but not to a black seven or a red six.
You can only move a card to a foundation if it is one rank higher and of the same suit as the card at the top of that pile. For example, you can move a spade five to a spade four, but not to a spade three or a heart four.
You can only move a card to an empty freecell if there is no other card in that cell. You can only have one card in each freecell at any time.
You can only move a card to an empty column if there is no other card in that column. You can move any card to an empty column, regardless of its rank or color.
You can move multiple cards at once from one column to another if they form a descending sequence of alternating colors. For example, you can move a red queen, a black jack, and a red ten together as a group. However, you can only do this if you have enough empty freecells or columns to temporarily store the cards that you are not moving. The number of cards that you can move at once is equal to one plus the number of empty freecells plus the number of empty columns. For example, if you have two empty freecells and one empty column, you can move up to four cards at once.
You win the game when you have moved all 52 cards to the foundation piles in ascending order by suit.
The tips and tricks of the game
Now that you know how to play Freecell Solitaire, here are some tips and tricks that can help you improve your skills and win more games:
Plan ahead: Before making any move, think about how it will affect your future moves. Try to avoid blocking cards that you need later or filling up your freecells with cards that you cannot use soon.
Use your freecells wisely: Your freecells are your best friends in Freecell Solitaire. They allow you to move cards around and create more space on the tableau. However, they also limit your ability to move multiple cards at once. Therefore, use your freecells sparingly and strategically. Only put cards in your freecells that you can easily move out later or that will help you uncover other important cards.
Build sequences: One of the keys to winning Freecell Solitaire is to build long sequences of desc
